Places are made through power relations that construct rules, which define boundaries. Furthermore, the notion of space and place is fundamental to read Eltit’s work. Thus, the power of the body, bio-power and its effects on the spaces, and technics will set a scenario representing the material transformation of the paradigm of power relationships and subjectivities that make her novels an allegory of contemporary Latin American society. In Eltit’s work, the female body is the main tool used to cause a rupture within the persistent standardization of bodies under a rigid society. The analysis is focused on postmodern aesthetics through the incorporation of different theories concerning gender, visual arts, and philosophy in order to analyze a diversity of resistances to a political and a social order, to a discipline that tries to submit people to a system in order to keep them under constant surveillance. En el libro estudiamos el significado de los centros comerciales, partiendo de la problemática de su definición, y descubrimos como la simbiosis del comercio y el ocio, unido a una serie de rasgos propios, son la clave de su éxito actual. Se han apropiado del rol de la calle y la plaza, sustituyendo el espacio público por el privado de compra y ocio. Son lugares de encuentro, abiertos, pero controlados y vigilados. Recurren a ambientes artificiales, imágenes y símbolos con un destino final, el consumo. Son una recreación de la realidad y la ficción. Se difunden y se desarrollan porque son valorados y demandados por la sociedad de nuestro tiempo. Los centros comerciales adaptan a las formas actuales funciones urbanas tradicionales. ![]()
